Russia, Cuba consider new projects in transport industry

HAVANA, April 11 (Itar-Tass) – Russia and Cuba consider new projects in
the transport industry. Cuban leader Fidel Castro is interested in the
development of bilateral trade ties, head of the Federal Agency for
Industry Boris Alyoshin who headed the Russian delegation in Cuba told
Itar-Tass on Monday.

At a meeting with the Russian delegation Castro spoke about the plans to
develop the transport network in Cuba. He noted that Cuba may purchase
Russian buses, trucks and trains, Alyoshin emphasized.

During the meeting the sides reached agreement that the delegation of
the Cuban transport ministry will arrive in Moscow soon. This delegation
will consider the possibilities of concluding commercial contracts on
supplies of the Russian machinery in the Caribbean country. According to
Alyoshin, some offers in the energy industry were also discussed. Havana
is interested in the development of the energy industry.

The head of the Federal Agency for Industry praised highly a contract
that the Russian leasing company Ilyushin Finance and the Cuban Civil
Aviation Institute signed during a visit of the Russian company
officials in Havana. Under the contract Russia will supply to Cuba five
civil airplanes worth of 250 million dollars.

“I think that this agreement can be considered a breakthrough, other
contracts may follow it,” Alyoshin pointed out. Such Latin American
countries as Venezuela, Bolivia and Argentine also show interest to buy
civil aircraft in Russia, he remarked.
